Trigger point therapy can be utilized to treat chronic and acute pain as well as radiating neuromuscular symptoms arising from distant trigger points. This course defines and identifies trigger point physiology and their ability to cause local and global chronic and acute pain and other neurological symptoms. Muscle anatomy of the face, neck, shoulders, back, and hips are reviewed along with the associated referral symptoms. Hands-on demonstrations are provided for the muscles commonly associated with headaches, as well as common trigger points in the posterior torso and hips. Self-care techniques for treating trigger points commonly associated with headaches are also demonstrated.

- Students will explain the history of trigger points.
- Students will describe what a trigger point is and list the types.
- Students will explain the nature of trigger points.
- Students will describe the physiology of trigger points and list their symptoms.
