In addition to the qualifications and conditions described in the Texas §558.244 of this division (relating to Administrator Qualifications and Conditions and Supervising Nurse Qualifications), an administrator and alternate administrator must complete 12 clock hours of continuing education within each 12-month period beginning with the date of designation.  

After completing the 24 hours of initial education (provided in previous courses) prior to or during the first 12 months after designation as a first-time administrator and alternative administrator, an administrator and alternate administrator must complete continuing education requirement as specified in §558.260 of this division (relating to Continuing Education in Administration of Agencies) in each subsequent 12-month period after designation. 

This bundle of ANCC-approved nursing lessons has been developed to meet the administrator’s or alternative administrator’s requirements of the 12 hours of continuing education training.

This bundle of topics meets the training requirements as outlined in TAC 26, Chapter 558, Rule §558.260. This course offers 12 clock hours of training that must be obtained within 12 months of designation and annually per the regulations thereafter. The information contained in this course is a compilation of content developed and reviewed by a wide variety of content experts as indicated on each video topic. The content has also been reviewed by subject matter expert Leigh Ann Frick, PT, MBA, as meeting the 12-clock hour training requirement for Texas HCSSA.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Utilize select knowledge and skills when working with clients and families such as self-awareness, trust, and accountability. 
  • Explain the essential skills of collaboration, empathy, and feedback and how they apply to teamwork.   
  • Identify three mindset struggles that individuals encounter. 
  • List reframing strategies to boost emotional health and interpersonal effectiveness. 
  • Identify the risks older adults face such as isolation, abuse, and bias. 
  • Evaluate influences on healthcare from various cultural backgrounds including race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ, and religion. 
  • Consider cultural determinants of the military and veteran population. 
  • Discuss cultural influence and health disparities among persons with disabilities. 
  • Describe common documentation best practices, risks, and actions that may be used to reduce legal consequences. 
  • Describe compassion fatigue and its prevalence in the workplace. 
  • Evaluate the components of burnout in healthcare and discuss at least three strategies that may be used to increase resilience. 
  • Discuss specific strategies to care for self as a professional, administrator, and leader.

Leigh Ann attended Ohio University where she obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Therapy in 1993.  Leigh Ann is licensed to practice as a phyiscal therapist in Ohio, South Carolina and North Carolina and has 23 years of experience; primarily in the post-acute continuum.  Leigh Ann started her career in Physical Therapy splitting her time between acute care and skilled nursing faciliites.  She quickly realized she enjoyed teaching and training, and was given an opporutnity to provide internal educational sessions to the clinicians in her company on various clinical and regulatory topics.  Leigh Ann then moved into a consulting role, assisting skilled nursing facilities and their rehabilitation departments with quality, compliance and clinical effecacy through audits, education, site visits and mock surveys.

Leigh Ann then became a Regional Director of Operations, again focusing on how to clinically achieve the operational outcomes necessary to have an effective rehab department; always focused on quality care and resident advocacy.  For the past 15 years Leigh Ann has been responsible for the clinical integrity of a large rehabiliation partner and spent the last 2 years as the Chief Clinical Officer before she started her own consulting company; Care Navigation Consulting in November 2016.  She completed her MBA from Clemson University in 2011; allowing her to better understand the business intricacies that have allowed her to be both a clinical and operational leader. 

 

Leigh Ann has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1993 and has been actively involved and a board member of NASL (National Association for the Support of Long Term Care).  She has spoken at both the state and national level, including VHCA, OHCA and Leading Age National to name a few. Leigh Ann is a proven subject matter expert as it pertains to the delivery of quality rehab services compliant with regulatory iniiatives in the post-acute continuum; this qualifies her to present the material outlined above in the objectives.
