- Recognize the current statistics on abusive head trauma (AHT) in infants and children.
- Recall signs, symptoms, and long-term complications of abusive head trauma in infants and children.
- Identify the treatment for abusive head trauma in infants and children.
- Recall signs and symptoms that are not indicative of AHT.
- Identify ways of communicating with the health care team findings suggestive of AHT and those findings which are not suggestive AHT.
- Recognize strategies for educating families on both the prevention and recognition of AHT.

She has worked at the bedside, both in acute and critical care pediatrics, and as a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP). Dr. Carno is a nationally certified primary care PNP and maintains both her RN and NP license in New York state. She has taught both clinical and didactic content in pediatric nursing and is a frequent guest lecturer on pediatric-related issues at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. She has reviewed pediatric-related and medical-surgical nursing texts and authored two textbooks.
