This course is intended for physical therapists in the state of Massachusetts as a means of reviewing and educating on ethical standards and comply with the law.  The course outlines current rules and regulations regarding physical therapy practice in the state of Massachusetts. The course also reviews requirements necessary for obtaining and renewing a PT license in Massachusetts.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 

  • Define ethics, morality, and integrity.
  • Identify the theoretical basis of ethical decision-making and the application of ethics in healthcare.
  • Identify the principles of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Code of Ethics for Physical Therapists and the principles of the APTA Guide for Professional Conduct.
  • Describe the laws pertaining to physical therapy practice in the Massachusetts General Provisions, the Registered Physical Therapy Law from the General Laws of Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the Code of Massachusetts Regulations Title 259.
  • Identify the content on the Massachusetts Board of Physical Therapy website and current continuing education reporting procedures.

Criteria for Completion: Criteria for Completion: A score of 75% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 75% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved
