The purpose of this basic, introductory course is to provide home health occupational therapy practitioners with the information they need to understand the significance and importance of effectively using the of Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) instrument to deliver comprehensive, patient-focused, and cost-effective skilled services in the home environment. This course focuses on the OASIS-E, which replaced the OASIS-D1 on January 1, 2023.  The occupational therapist will be able to use the OASIS information provided in this course to create a basis for the plan of care, to measure the patient’s progress in meeting the established home health care goals, and to meet the regulatory requirements for quality reporting and reimbursement. 

Professional Objectives:

  1. Explain the evolution and purposes of the of Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) instrument. 
  2. Describe the OASIS instrument. 
  3. Describe the rules about when, by whom, and how the OASIS instrument is completed. 
  4. Explain when and how to use Chapter 3 of the OASIS-E Guidance Manual. 
  5. Identify each of the items within the OASIS-E dataset.

Criteria for Completion: Depending on your state requirements you will be asked to complete either: An affirmation that you have completed the educational activity  or a mandatory test (a passing score of 75 percent is required). Test questions link content to learning objectives as a method to enhance individualized learning and material retention. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.

Clarice currently serves as an American Occupational Therapy Association Political Action Committee (AOTPAC) Ambassador for North Carolina. Through these and other positions, Clarice has contributed to several publications and presentations on home health, Medicare policy, value-based care, federal legislation, and advocacy. Her prior clinical experience includes acute care, outpatient, lymphedema, and home health. Clarice is a 2018 graduate of Columbia University in New York, NY.
