Course Goals & Objectives:
Course Goals:
The purpose of this course is to provide current information about the pathophysiology of pain, the differences between acute and chronic pain, chronic pain assessment, and chronic pain management.
Professional Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Define terms related to pain management.
- Differentiate among the various pain theories.
- Describe the physiology of pain as it relates to pain mechanisms and pain pathways.
- Differentiate between acute and chronic pain.
- Explain the impact of chronic pain.
- Perform a pain assessment.
- Discuss pharmacologic treatment measures for chronic pain.
- Discuss nonpharmacologic treatment measures for chronic pain.
Criteria for Completion:
A score of 70% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.
