Course Description
Course Description:
With over 99% of the American public having limited sense of cultural competency as it pertains to their healthcare, it is incumbent upon health care service providers to be able to communicate to the best of their ability.
This course discusses specific cultures and their respective perceptions of pain and illness. This primer course proves that there are differences in how pain and “hurt” are expressed, as well as those cultures who have a hierarchy that is designed to protect their members from outsiders. The course participant learns about those cultures who require that patients are supervised and have a group of decision makers help them.
Other areas covered include perception of health problems, and persistent pain in various cultures and how to recognize and respect them.
