Learning Outcomes: 

After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Evaluate the data that are extractable from the electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor.
  • Differentiate the various healthcare team members’ responsibilities in rhythm monitoring.
  • Distinguish between normal rhythms, paced rhythms, and fundamental dysrhythmias on the ECG monitor.
  • Identify the underlying mechanisms of fundamental dysrhythmias.
  • Appraise suitable interventions rooted in the accurate recognition of prevalent dysrhythmias.

After an extensive career as an emergency department nurse and paramedic clinical instructor, she worked in a large full-service cardiac hospital. In 1986, she authored an ECG textbook (under the name Dawn Bean). She currently administers free web-based teaching materials for other ECG instructors.
