Course Description

This course comprehensively reviews acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a prevalent and life-threatening condition affecting approximately 10% of intensive care unit patients annually. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of ARDS, including its pathophysiology, different phenotypes, diagnosis, and contemporary multidisciplinary treatment strategies. The course will cover the evolving knowledge of ARDS since its original description in 1967. Additionally, the course will emphasize the importance of early recognition and appropriate management by multidisciplinary care teams, comprising nurses, advanced practice providers, physicians, and respiratory therapists, in improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Furthermore, participants will explore the financial implications associated with ARDS treatments and the need for evidence-based and cost-effective care delivery. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the challenges ARDS poses in clinical practice effectively.
