Description:
Over the last decade, the number of patients admitted to post-acute care with tracheostomies has increased. This course is designed to provide the SLP with an overview of the components of a tracheostomy, a review of tracheostomy care, and to increase the SLP’s competency of evaluation and treatment methods for patients with tracheostomies.

This course is intended to increase the SLP’s competency of evaluating and treating patients with tracheostomies.
Professional Objectives:
- Recognize the purpose of a tracheostomy tube
- Identify the main parts of a tracheostomy tube
- Identify the different types of tracheostomy tubes
- Select the appropriate evaluation to determine if a patient can voice with a tracheostomy tube
- Select the appropriate swallow evaluation for a patient with a tracheostomy tube
- Select appropriate dysphagia and voice treatments in patients with tracheostomy tubes

Criteria for Completion: Criteria for Completion: A score of 70% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.
This course is offered for 0.10 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
