There are over 100 different described physical examination tests for the shoulder. There is confusion in the literature and among practitioners as to the exact nomenclature and technique for commonly performed tests. Many of these test have been shown to be of poor statistical value, yet their use persists. This course will begin with a review of the origins and techniques of commonly performed tests followed be a review of all pertinent published literature pertaining to the statistical accuracy, and relevance of the tests. This will be followed by a demonstration of an efficient sequence and algorithm incorporating all necessary tests to complete a thorough and comprehensive examination of the shoulder.

This course is intended to instruct the professional on the use of evidence based tests in the comprehensive examination of the shoulder.
Professional Objectives:
- Recognize the history and proper indications for the most commonly used shoulder exam tests
- Identify basic statistical terms to describe the validity of physical exam tests
- Recognize the proper technique for performing should exam tests
Criteria for Completion:
A score of 70% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.
