This course focuses on the disorders associated with dysphagia. By doing a chart review, red flags should be recognized by the speech pathologist which indicates dysphagia is potentially part of the package and which phase of swallow would be affected. A review of the importance of medications will be discussed and attendees will be instructed on identification of disorders that are often seen together.

Course Goals & Objectives:
Course Goals: This course is intended to instruct the professional on dysphagia disorders and the impact on swallowing.
At the end of this course the participant will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of a good chart review prior to the initial evaluation.
- Identify the disorders/disease processes that predispose the patient to dysphagia, disorders that are often found together and the impact on the swallow
- List specific medications that could contribute to dysphagia.
- Identify the benefits and burdens for Alternate forms of nutrition/hydration
- Identify specific disorders that impact the swallow.
Criteria for Completion:
A score of 70% or more is considered passing. Scores of less than 70% indicate a failure to understand the material and the test will need to be taken again until a passing score has been achieved.
