The wild roses have begun to bloom in Iowa, heralding the first warm days of spring. It's time to think about putting away the snow shovel, cleaning out the cupboards, and planting a garden. It's also time to remind you that if you are an Iowa OT or OTA you need to check your license renewal date; it's an easy one, it's the 15th of your birth month! Before you get one year older, it's time to get 2 years smarter.
Continuing Education Requirements
The Iowa Board of Physical & Occupational Therapy requires that OTs complete 30 hours of continuing education while OTAs need 15 hours in the 2-year renewal cycle. OTs need to have all their requirements met by the 15th day of their birth month. For example: If your birthday is the 20th of June and your license was issued in 2010, you'll need to finish up your CEU by the 15th of June, 2012.
It's important to remember that Iowa OT/OTAs have a home study limit, which states that no more than 1/2 of the therapists continuing education hours may be taken via home study courses; 15 hours maximum for OTs and 7 1/2 maximum for OTAs. The other half of your continuing education must come from qualifying live events, such as interactive webinars or onsite events like Rehab Rally 2012 which can give you up to 20 hours towards your live requirements, or by participating in one of our upcoming live, interactive webinars. Please check the state & profession specific course catalog for a schedule of upcoming webinar events.
