As you may have already heard the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers is changing the continuing education deadline from a staggered 3 year deadline, to a standard every 2 year deadline beginning in 2013.
If you expire in 2011 and have already completed most or all of your CEUs, don’t worry, the new changes won’t affect you until 2013, at which time you will be required to complete only 50 CEUs, because of the shorter 2 year period you’ll have to complete them. For ATs who were certified prior to 2011, you will have 75 CEUs due by 12/31/2013. ATs who were initially certified in either 2011, or 2012, will have their CEUs prorated at 50 CEUs due for ATs certified in 2011, and 25 CEUs for ATs certified in 2012. To better understand let’s look at the charts supplied by the BOC.
The BOC will be mailing new BOC cards with the updated expiration dates in December of 2011, and January of 2012, so be on the lookout!
According to the BOC they have had many updates in their technology since 2006, when they originally implemented the staggered CEU deadlines, and are making this change because CE form processing has become a much less exhausting process due to these new technological advancements.
