Evaluation and Management of Dysphagia in the Alzheimer Patient

Course Description

Swallowing is an amazingly complex function and there are many points at which damage to the brain and muscle wasting or weakness can cause major problems.

This course discusses the progression found in Alzheimers patients and the impact on their swallow. These patients are often unable to participate in a standardized evaluation. Specific assessments/tools are identified to assist the speech pathologist with the evaluation, development of the functional maintenance plan for the patient and staff/family education.
